When two race car drivers host a red carpet event, a few expectations have to be met. First: A sweet token supermodel clad in a thermal racing suit must appear in every picture taken on the red carpet. Check. Second: There must be a gawk-inducing racecar parked out front, which no one has ever driven before, obviously teleported to the event. Check. Lastly: Lots and lots of dudes in slick suits and branded golf shirts milling about. Check, check and check.
The IZOD series drivers Alex Tagliani and Paul Tracy got the basics down pat—and they even invited a stylish array of their racing friends, including Dancing with the Stars survivor Helio Castroneves, Tony Kanaan, Al Unser Jr., Ryan Hunter-Reay, Gil de Ferran and yes, the lovely Danica Patrick.
What the duo forgot to do however was invite enough non-Indy guests to fill up the two-level venue (Dolce Social Ballroom on King), and perhaps ask their racing friends to stick around for a drink or two instead of making a beeline for a cab fresh off the red carpet.
It’s a good thing this invite-only event had an open bar and that there was plenty of extra alcohol to be had on behalf of the absent drivers. With room to walk around, we hand-picked the best dressed of the evening and chatted with most of the guests atop Dolce’s secluded rooftop patio until the open bar policy precluded any further research.
Just before the guests started doing vodka shots with the two ladies dressed in matching ’50s-inspired white INDY jumpsuits—think the Pink Ladies in Grease—we managed to snap some shots of Flashpoint actor Michael Cram and of a sophisticated woman wearing the most curious biker jacket, complete with a full cat’s face painted on the back.
Flashpoint’s Michael Cram.
